Requirements*

  • Passport with sufficient validity (confirm with the embassy where you apply)
  • Recent photograph (within six months)
  • Document indicating current location (e.g. valid visa, travel or accommodation proof)
  • Financial evidence: no less than 500,000 THB (e.g. bank statements for the last three months, or a sponsor letter per official guidance)
  • Workcation route: employment contract or employment certificate, or a professional portfolio showing digital nomad / remote worker / freelancer status
  • Thai soft-power route (e.g. Muay Thai, Thai cooking, medical): proof of enrolment or appointment from the organiser or hospital
  • Dependents (spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder): proof of relationship and the principal holder’s DTV, plus financial evidence as listed on the official checklist
  • Application fee: 10,000–13,000 THB depending on the embassy (confirm current fee at submission)
  • Embassies may request extra documents. Always follow the checklist for the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General where you apply

Our Process

  1. 1

    Choose your route

Workcation (remote work or freelance) and Thai soft-power activities use different supporting documents. Family members of DTV holders follow a separate dependent checklist.

  2. 2

    Prepare your documents

Gather passport, photo, location evidence, 500,000 THB financial proof, and the contract, portfolio, or activity confirmation that matches your route.

  3. 3

    Submit your application

Apply through the Thai e-Visa system or as directed by the embassy or consulate handling your jurisdiction.

  4. 4

    Receive your DTV

Processing times vary by mission. Your DTV is issued as directed by the consular officer (e.g. sticker in passport or e-visa confirmation).

  5. 5

    Enter Thailand

The DTV is a multiple-entry visa with 5-year validity; each entry allows a stay of up to 180 days (confirm conditions on your approval).

  6. 6

    Optional: extend your stay

You may apply for an extension at an immigration office in Thailand where permitted by current Immigration rules.

The DTV is one of Thailand’s most flexible long-stay options, but also one of the most misunderstood. It covers three distinct categories (workcation, cultural activities, and dependents), each with its own document requirements. Applying under the wrong category, or submitting an incomplete set of documents, typically means rejection with no refund of government fees.

Official requirements are published on the Thailand e-Visa site, but individual embassies and consulates can add local requirements, so the mission where you apply has the final word.

Visa Siam maps your situation to the right category, prepares your full document set, and submits a complete application the first time.
